3. MAIN GOAL: The BCheeSE project aims to ensure the traceability, authenticity, and added value of the Serra da Estrela DOP Cheese (QSE PDO) supply chain. It is based on a national partnership that brings together producer associations, R&D entities, companies in the sector, and the Center of Competence for Family Farming and Agroecology. In this line of action, the aim is to consolidate production to improve producers’ bargaining power. To this end, producer organizations will receive training in professional management, organizational innovation, the circular economy, marketing, and foreign trade, thereby promoting the sustainability of their members’ production units.

11. OBJECTIVES, ACTIVITIES, AND EXPECTED/ACHIEVED RESULTS
A. The project has the following strategic objectives:
1. Assessment of the current situation (milk and lamb producers, cheese dairies, thistle flower producers, commercial channels):
- Conducting surveys on production and organizational processes
- Collection of information on location, areas, and production levels for GIS development
- Characterization of marketing channels for Serra da Estrela PDO products (cheese, curd cheese, lamb)
2. Implementation of experimental activities and validation processes in the production and industrial context:
- Analysis of pastures from the perspective of floristic diversity and nutritional composition
- Evaluation and implementation of the animal genetic improvement program strategy
- Evaluation and monitoring of the quality of milk, thistle flower, cheese, and curd cheese ingredients
- Evaluation of biometric parameters and the physical-chemical and organoleptic characteristics of lamb
3. Definition of marketing strategies (brand, emotional, territorial):
- Evaluation of marketing strategies already implemented
- Definition and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy
4. Creation of the “Serra da Estrela Cheese Observatory”
B. Expected Results (Indicators):
1. 30% increase in the number of units of QSE PDO sold by the Producers’ Group
2. 40% increase in the number of producers certifying Serra da Estrela PDO Lamb
